BC Spaces for Nature
BC Spaces for Nature has been working to preserve wilderness for over fifty years. This archival record documents our actions and those we have worked with on protecting the Wild Earth to benefit 'All Peoples, All Generations and All Species.' The format and language of this archive reflect the fact that this is a historical record. We believe this is important because it forms the foundation of the work being done today for the future. Education: WildED

Parks and wilderness are essential to the Canadian persona. If our parks and wilderness legacy is truly to be recognized and passed on to future generations, the next generations of young people must understand the value of wild nature and why and how it needs to be cherished and preserved. That was the vision for our award winning education program, WildED.

Started by John Clarke and Lisa Baille in 1996 with leadership from BC Spaces for Nature from 2003-2012, WildED took a unique and original approach to accomplish this by delivering FREE nature education programs to grades 4 - 12 across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Our educators were professional teachers with backgrounds in natural sciences and outdoor education

The goals of WildED were as follows:

  • To ensure the next generation of young people saw nature, parks and wilderness as fundamental to their identity and the stewardship of wild places as their responsibility
  • To facilitate and inspire youth to make personal connections with nature, parks, and wilderness by experiencing nature first-hand
  • To ensure the integrity of the existing park system remained intact and protected
